The Banks-Vernonia Trail is clear of debris but there is moss along the edges
which is easy to avoid.

Birkenfeld is iffy for supplies due to changing hours of operation. It’s 45 miles
from Vernonia to Elsie. Plan accordingly.

The pavement between Birkenfeld and Hwy 103 is a little choppy but everywhere else
was fine.

There is a cattle guard at the entrance to Jewell Meadows H.Q. that is slippery if wet.
There is a bachelor herd of elk currently in residence at the meadow. Don’t miss it.

Use caution when crossing US 26 at the Elsie control.
Incidentally, the Eldeberry Inn, Baker Store control is not technically in Elsie.
When you come up to US 26 from OR 103 turn RIGHT towards Portland. Don’t follow
the road sign that points to Elsie.

Ken and I did a lot of sight-seeing and rode right to edge qualifying. Check out the pictures on the ORRando
Facebook page.

See you Saturday.
