I also see that Outdoor Research has waterproof mitts again - the Vector Mi=
tt and the Meteor Mitt.

Subject: [OrRando] Waterproof gloves - still looking, plus bonus shoe rev=
iew
Hi All,
I was hanging out in Bike Gallery today waiting for Jason to get his bike=
repaired (nothing like a Portland Velo ride, heading east into Verboort, u=
nsafe pass by a big truck and watching all the riders in front of you go of=
f the road into a ditch... Everyone is ok.), and was looking at gloves.
Has anyone tried the Specialized Sub Zero or Radiant gloves? I'm looking=
for warm AND waterproof. Or exceptionally water resistant. I've got the =
Mountain Hardwear Conduit over-gloves, and they give it up after a couple o=
f hours of heavy rain. The Serius gloves aren't all that wonderful either,=
for all that they claim to be weather proof. Cecil has watched me wring t=
hem out a few times.
I know a lot of you out there just wear heaps of wool. This is not the i=
nformation I'm looking for. If I wanted warm, wool, and waterproof, I'd ge=
t some Dachsteins from REI. If they still make them. I may still.
Bonus Shoe Review:
I have gotten real tired of pulling on shoes and booties, riding into to =
work, taking off shoes and booties, and doing the reverse in the evening. =
Especially since my Shimano shoes are so very water-welcoming. (Yes, I've =
got Shimano sandals. Even with wool socks AND Sugoi Resistor booties, my f=
eet were profoundly wet and cold on the Livestrong Ride.) So I sprung for =
the Pearl Izumi X-Alp Mid GTX shoes. The GTX stands for Gore-Tex. Not the=
warmest shoes out there, but I have the means to cope with that (three che=
ers for the chemical toe warmer). If it is going to be really cold and I'm=
going to be out there all day, I could pull booties over them. BUT, I hav=
e ridden them in some major deluge conditions (across Portland the day the =
sky opened and everything flooded and it was raining sideways), and the fee=
t came out of it pretty well. So I've retired the booties from commuting.
Cheers,
Lynne "Imelda of Gloves" F
