Hi All,
I was hanging out in Bike Gallery today waiting for Jason to get his bike r=
epaired (nothing like a Portland Velo ride, heading east into Verboort, uns=
afe pass by a big truck and watching all the riders in front of you go off =
the road into a ditch... Everyone is ok.), and was looking at gloves.
Has anyone tried the Specialized Sub Zero or Radiant gloves? I'm looking f=
or warm AND waterproof. Or exceptionally water resistant. I've got the Mo=
untain Hardwear Conduit over-gloves, and they give it up after a couple of =
hours of heavy rain. The Serius gloves aren't all that wonderful either, f=
or all that they claim to be weather proof. Cecil has watched me wring the=
m out a few times.
I know a lot of you out there just wear heaps of wool. This is not the inf=
ormation I'm looking for. If I wanted warm, wool, and waterproof, I'd get =
some Dachsteins from REI. If they still make them. I may still.
Bonus Shoe Review:
I have gotten real tired of pulling on shoes and booties, riding into to wo=
rk, taking off shoes and booties, and doing the reverse in the evening. Es=
pecially since my Shimano shoes are so very water-welcoming. (Yes, I've go=
t Shimano sandals. Even with wool socks AND Sugoi Resistor booties, my fee=
t were profoundly wet and cold on the Livestrong Ride.) So I sprung for th=
e Pearl Izumi X-Alp Mid GTX shoes. The GTX stands for Gore-Tex. Not the w=
armest shoes out there, but I have the means to cope with that (three cheer=
s for the chemical toe warmer). If it is going to be really cold and I'm g=
oing to be out there all day, I could pull booties over them. BUT, I have =
ridden them in some major deluge conditions (across Portland the day the sk=
y opened and everything flooded and it was raining sideways), and the feet =
came out of it pretty well. So I've retired the booties from commuting.
Cheers,
Lynne "Imelda of Gloves" F
