spade connectors arent waterproof, but water isnt a significant issue 
with them, in my experience. in 8 years of constant daily usage with 
a schmidt, ive never had problem one with spade connectors, and i 
daresay theyve been through worse in those years than most will see 
in a lifetime. i honestly dont see the failure that susan had as that 
big an issue, seeing as its the only time ive yet to hear someone 
mentioning this actually happening, and ive been using schmidts 
pretty much since they came into production. i probably dont 
disconnect mine nearly as much as susan does, but ive certainly been 
*far* from gentle/careful with them. for me, it falls in the category 
of "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

and 20 years ago, they probably said "its only a matter of time!" 
since production carbon fiber frames and forks were first built in 
1975 (though still with metal involved) :)
