[ORRando] misbehaving SON generator hub

i believe my SON hub might be failing--this is my second (first was
stolen) but i've never had any issues before, so this comes as a
surprise and i'm hoping it might not be as bad as it seems.

it'll provide power on at only low speed and makes a bit of a clicking
noise when doing so (my edelux light will come on at full power during
each click, in effect blinking at full brightness, but not maintaining
full brightness, since i am going too slow to carry during the space
between the magnets in the hub.  or so i imagine.)  once the wheel
spins up over about 4mph the clicking stops, but so does the supply of
power.

has anyone experienced anything like this before or have any debugging
suggestions?  i've got a taillight wired to it (via the headlight, by
peter white's instruction) which does get just enough power to get the
standlight running dimly for a few seconds, so i think the wiring to
it is ok.

i'm dreading having to send it to germany to get serviced just as i
start to need it for every single one of my commutes.
