[ORRando] ORRando Digest, Vol 56, Issue 5

Well, I was going to say that a training camp like Wenatchee would be good.
However, early April can be cold and wet and most of the roads above 2500'
are likely to have snow. The passes, if open, will have heavily graveled
shoulders. Further east is more likely to have less rain and snow. The
Dalles is a pretty dry and there should be plentiful lodging between The
Dalles and Hood River. I have several 200k routes, a 300k and several 100k
routes that are probably going to be open. There are also several two or
three day out and backs with overnights at Heppner, Spray or Condon.
Mountain biking is huge here in case there anyone is interested in that.
There are also some easy trails for mountain bikes for the not so crazy like
the 36 mile trail at The Deschutes River by Biggs Junction and the Klickitat
River Rails to Trails project. Four or five days of riding is just the thing
to help rebuild endurance.

I think what makes the SIR training camp work is there are a large number of
riders who like getting together and riding. There is a hotel that offers a
rate discount, a small amount of organization with identified routes, some
volunteer supported controls, an evening banquet with some silliness and an
area with nice terrain and climate. So if you haven't gone to the Wenatchee
training camp, you might consider the Wenatchee Camp another fine SIR
adventure.

Perhaps if there are some people willing to help create a training camp
down south in Oregon, we could think about what it is and where it should
go. I know The Dalles area. It is likely to be dry when Portland is wet.
