Thanks to Michael Rasmussen for helping with the start & passing out the Fleche trophies (we had a lovely backroads ride to Martha's Tacos for breakfast after registration). Barb Ogilvie and Nate Armbrust handled the overnight control, checking riders in, feeding them, running for burgers, fixing flats, getting them up and off in the morning.

On the 200k 9 started, 7 finished. Brian List and Dan Fender took a R on SR 20 instead of a S. They turned around when they started smelling the Ocean some 20 miles later. Unfortunately, not being locals they were riding SR 20 and SR 18 (rumble strips) and didn't know there was some great little side roads they could be on if they wanted to go to the ocean. This route featured 3700 ft of climbing according to 1 altimeter.

On the 600k 15 started, 11 finished. For 5 individuals this was their first 600k and all of them finihed: Jennifer Chang, Steven Davis, Mike Johnson, John Henry Maurice, and Cecil Reniche-Smith. Four individuals earned the first Super Randonneur awards in the NW (3 of them women): Jennifer Chang, Steven Davis, Lesli Larson, and Peg Winczewski. All of these rider rode the tough (& hot) SIR 400 last weekend and finished the new ORR 600k this weekend. All 600k riders earned extra credit miles on day two, with some bad cues in Salem and a missing turn coming in... still they all managed to smell, call for instructions (or flag down and ask) their way to the next town. Congrats to all! This route featured 15,200 ft of climbing according to 1 altimeter. Please let me know if your reading if you kept track of the elevation gain.

See you all for the Covered Bridges 200 or 400.

Susan.

** This is Peg's 14th SR... I'm not able to convince her to fill out the Ultra-Randonneur paperwork so I thought I'd tell her entire club (SIR) so they can start pestering her --she's not on these elists ;-)
