Twenty riders started and 18 finished. Because of conflicting start 
times listed on the web site, riders who arrived late for the start have 
a start time recorded at 05:30.  Peter Beeson's bike ran over an object 
in the road while traveling at 37 mph and flatted both tires resulting 
in Peter taking a tumble on the pavement. Peter was forced to withdraw 
from the ride because of damage to his bicycle and abrasions to several  
areas of his body. Mike Bingle withdrew from the ride at mile 171, 
Brooks State Park. The final riders qualified the last control on Sunday 
at 5:32 am. Dave's Rowedside cafe was a huge success and Paul Whitney's 
control at Glenwood was much appreciated. It was a windy day with 20 to 
25 mph winds propelling the riders east along the Columbia river. The 
riders encountered energy sapping head wind between Mabton and Glenwood, 
mile 115 to 218. Evening temperatures were chilly and probably dropped 
in to the low 40 degree range reported in Underwood Washington.
