Yes, I heard the tone that made it seem to be the cyclists fault because they were there. If the car had veered onto a sidewalk or a school playground would it be Ok?
The cyclists were doing everything right: Riding with traffic, on the shoulder of an unrestricted road, with helmets.
Even if you hit a parked car there is a price to pay, accident or not.
Why are our lives devalued just because we get on a bicycle?

Maybe Bill picking up that glass in Laurelwood, and dilleying, was our
saving on Monday. Along with that delay in starting in the morning because
of espresso shots. You guys do the math, were would we have been with a 9am
start and a speedy flat change? Would 5 cyclists wearing neon yellow make a
  difference?

I'm rather sick knowing the shoulder is really wide in that section of hwy,
cyclist wear neon yellow, weather ideal, sun high in the sky. Which is why I
assumed the accident was a car trying to cross near that intersection. So
far I only heard an interview with an investigator that called it an
accident and said basically while the cyclists were on the shoulder the
speed limit IS 55mph...like it's ok to not pay attention if the speed limit
  is 55mph.

  Susan.
