Just so you know. This came up last year when I was emailing Janet H in
Seattle who had family from Verboort... and it came up again when I was
having dinner with Joel and the gang on the Birkie Brevet. The idea has
been to start the populaire somewhere where we can park (Maybe Grand Lodge 2
miles away, Verboort parking is a nightmare!) and finish in Verboort. After
you have stuffed yourselves and packed an additional 5-10 lbs of sausage &
Kraut into a pannier... slog your way back to your car. OK, the vegetarians
amongst us are going.. oh yuck... but the carnivores who have tried Verboort
Sausage & Kraut are going.. oh Yum.

Speaking of Yum... I went scouting in Lafayette yesterday... a possible
control for the 300k. I found a Mexican market, a pioneer cemetery and
morels... You can see my pics here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/orrando/sets/ So now is the time to be scanning
the shoulders of country roads for morels... especially with a few nice warm
days ahead.

See ya.
Susan.

November 4, 2006 -- Verboort
Every year the folks in Verboort have invited a few of their neighbors over
for a sausage and sauerkraut dinner. In 1934, 198 lbs of sausage and 10
gallons of sauerkraut were served to 150 diners. In 1999, 13 tons of sausage
and 350 gallons of sauerkraut were served to over 8000 diners. The dinner
includes all you can eat Verboort Sausage and sauerkraut, both made by
parishioners right here on the church property.
