Hi!

Just in case you are likely to be sitting at home bored out of your mind
this weekend, here are two NEW Vancouver Island brevets that might get those
rando-juices flowing again!

For more detail, please contact organizer, Stephen Hinde (Vancouver Island
Randonneur 'guru') at schinde at telus.net

In case the attached email notes are not transmitted, here are copies of
Stephen's recent notes:

[bc-randonneurs] Island 300, July 16

This makeup ride is now posted on RandoPony. The route starts in Victoria,
travels up the west coast to Port Renfrew, then across to Lake Cowichan and
on to Chemainus, returning to Victoria down the east side of the Island.
Lots of beautiful wilderness. Limited services. No smog. Limited parking
available on Tyee Rd near the start. Hope to see you there!

[bc-randonneurs] Island 600, July 16

This makeup ride is now on RandoPony. This is a new 600km route using parts
of older rides, plus the new Pacific Marine Road from Port Renfrew to Lake
Cowichan. The route starts with makeup 300 to Chemainus (km 220) where it
heads north to Courtenay before returning to Victoria. Courtenay sits at 361
km. There is a Travelodge Motel just south of the checkpoint, or several
hotels within 1 km past the checkpoint. If 361km is to soon to sleep, your
next choices are in Qualicum Beach, 55-60 km south. There is no bag
drop--you must be self-sufficient. Hope to see you next weekend!

RandoPony is self-evident if you click on any of the brevet links above. It
is an intent to ride pre-registration tool.

Hope some of you can make it up here to enjoy the charms of Victoria and
Vancouver Island. Note: The simplest way of getting to Victoria is up the
I-5 and at Olympia, take Hwy 101 to Port Angeles and the Black Ball Ferry to
Victoria. It is a much more scenic and peaceful drive than driving up the
I-5 through the megalopolis of Tacoma & Seattle). One can make reservations
on the Black Ball Ferry (recommended at this time of year).

Hope to see you on one of the rides.

Cheers . Ken
