[ORRando] A personal announcement

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In these days of instant internet communication and virtual
communities, the norms of communication are changing. After a lot of
thought, I've decided that it's appropriate to make a personal
announcement through the rather public medium of email, and email
targeted rather widely at that.
My wife, Gloria, and I have decided that we are going to separate and
seek a divorce.
A phrase that I've started hearing a lot lately is "that's to much
information", usually targeted at some morsel of personal data that
the listener would rather not know. If you don't know me personally
very well, and you don't care to know about my personal problems, then
I apologize for troubling you.
This message is really targeted at the rest of you, with whom I do
interact with some frequency, or with whom I work, or to whom I owe a
deliverable on some commitment. If you notice a lack of focus on my
part, or a less rapid response, or that I'm slower on the uptake: this
could be why. I'm doing broadly OK, but, do find that tasks are
taking longer, and may be accomplished with less flair than might
otherwise be the case. So: I crave your indulgence. Also, do feel
free to ping me with a reminder if I appear to have forgotten something.
As most of you know, right now I'm in Boston spending the quarter
doing research at Sun Labs, so nothing immediate has changed. We
will ahve to seriously start making other arrangements when I return
to Portland in December.
Thanks for listening,
Andrew Black
