We held the Nehalem 400 on Saturday, and the ride was a success. 12 riders
started, and 10 finished. (Plus one who did the worker's ride.) The
weather was absolutely perfect: sunny and cool, without too much wind.
Riders overcame extra traffic due to the Hood to Coast relay on part of the
course, a fairly dismal climb on US 26, and some road construction that made
conditions on the Nestucca River Road worse than they had to be. For this,
they were rewarded with beautiful scenery, miles of empty, smooth roads, and
many fun climbs and even funner descents.

Riders came from Alaska, California, Washington, and Oregon to participate.
10 rode diamond frame bicycles while 3 were on recumbents, and 1 woman and
12 men attempted the ride. The two DNF's were due to Achilles' tendon pain
and exhaustion, respectively. Finishing times ranged from 17.5 hours to 25
hours.

Thanks are due to Susan France for checking riders in at the start and
sending them on their way, and Ken Mattina for manning a feed stop/rest stop
on the Nestucca River Road in the middle of the night. The worst mishap I
have to report is that the local hooliganry took one of the OR Randonneurs
signs that indicated Ken's rest stop.

Thanks also to everyone who came out and rode!
