Carol and Peter are new ORR members. You may remember seeing them on the
ride. They were towing an igloo, I think. ;-)

Bert

I am back in Alaska after the great weekend Carol and I spent in Oregon for
the Three Capes Brevet. We wanted to thank you and all of the others who
organized and supported this amazing ride. The course was spectacular and
particularly traffic-free. We frequently travel to locations Outside of
Alaska to ride during our long winter, and this ranks right up there with
the very best.

It was particularly nice (and unexpected) to be able to ride in my shirt
sleeves. The weather was just threatening enough to test out the rain and
cold weather gear, without turning the ride into, you know, one of THOSE
rides. Everyone we met was friendly and supportive and we are proud to now
be members of Oregon Randonneurs.

I personally liked the ride in the dark along the spooky backroads from
Lafayette to Forest Grove, but Carol enjoyed the view from the summit of
Cape Meares, so I guess there was something for everyone. I did want to
mention that I got a substantially lower altimeter total than you are
showing--5840 total feet of climb. I know none of these wrist mounted
devises are perfect, but my Polar has been pretty reliable over several
years. There were only four significant summits, the first two capes, and
the two transverses of the coast range, and I can't get those climbs to come
even close to 7000 to 8000 feet. What are your thoughts on this?

In any event, we are glad we came, and will watch your ride list for future
offerings. Carol is working back and forth between Alaska and California,
and we are looking for ride opportunities that can incorporate her travel
schedule. We invite all members of the Oregon Randonneurs to check out the
Alaska Brevet series and our RAAM qualifier, the Fireweed 400. The Fireweed
has a number of shorter races held in conjunction, including a double
century with a net altitude loss and fast times.

Thanks again

Peter Giannini
