Hey, Ho, ORandos.

I am writing to let you know about two changes we've made to Saturday
night's Screech Owl Populaire.

First, the start location has been moved from Newberg to St. Paul to avoid
the traffic. We'll set-up in the parking are near the St. Paul Catholic
Church, just off the main highway on Church Ave. If you arrive early
enough, you might get a bite to eat at the Wild Mustang
Cafe<http://www.google.com/search?q=wild+mustang+cafe+st+paul%252C+or&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a>.
No promises about the food - but hey - it looks pretty cool from the
outside.

If you rode the Screech Owl last year, you will be pleased with the revised
route into Mt Angel from Hwy 99E. We've re-routed via Howell Prairie,
Waypark, and Church. The route home will take you over Abiqua Creek
through Gallon
House Bridge <http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1149813344040158146gTmZtM>,
rumored to be Oregon's oldest covered bridge, located a little more than a
mile northwest of Silverton.

The name Gallon House was due to the bridge's use as a "pigeon drop" for
liquor at the north entrance. Operators at a liquor dispensary nearby sold
"white lightening" whiskey by the gallon to Silverton residents. At the
time, Silverton was "dry," not allowing liquor to be sold in town, while Mt.
Angel was "wet."

>From Gallon House Bridge, the new route back to St. Louis meanders through
wide-open farm lands. During the mapping ride on a recent Saturday
afternoon, I don't think I saw a single car in almost 25 miles of riding,
except where crossing the 99E.
Please check out the new route and map.
<http://www.orrandonneurs.org/sftest/2007_ScreechOwl_Info.htm>And I hope to
see you on Saturday between 7:00pm and 7:45pm. Ride begins at 8am sharp.
If you are planning to ride, please register early so we have enough Screech
Owls for everyone. After owl, nobody likes to ride alone at night.

;-)
