It's not so much about "rolling away" as it is doing a 200 to 600 km brevet feeling almost as good at the end as when you started.  Not to sound like preaching, but there are no crotch probems, sore neck, sore shoulders, numb hands, or any of the other ailments long distance riders might incur.  

Recumbents aren't for anyone, but if at anytime you think of giving up randoneeuring because of discomfort issues..... a recumbent could be the solution...

And yah, I think fully lugged Rivendell's are georgeous bikes......
