[OrRando] Three Blue Shirts Epic Weekend Re: "Blue Shirt"

Blue Shirt is a nickname that a recreational cyclist gave to SIR riders in
his webblog last year, (imagine if you will, all of those Blue Wool Jerseys
at the start of any SIR event). If this poor soul had any problem navigating
the course or figuring out what to do, he just waited for one of the "Blue
Shirts" to come along and help him.

That term simply stuck with me. Seems you never just see one "Blue Shirt",
they come in crowds, sometimes taking up the entire bottom deck of Puget
Sound ferries. I strongly associated Blue Jerseys with SIR... and I assumed
this impression was felt by this new participant. I love it when I can go
north and put on my SIR jersey and become one of the "Blue Shirts".

OK?
Susan.

  O.K. New term. "Blue Shirt"
As in " The weather was terrible but we decided to" Blue Shirt".
Or " That was one bad weather day. Definitely a "Blue Shirt"

I got several emails yesterday asking if I'd heard anything from Eric,
Peter
or Noel, who decided to start the Birkie Perm at 3am Sunday morning from
Grand Lodge. I woke at 2am to horrific winds, rain and cold. Of those,
the
winds are always the scariest to me with those massive Dougs swaying in
gusty winds. I thought there was a chance they might hit some snow on
the
climb before Timber. Both Pauls, Johnson and Whitney, hit snow on their
respective drives home to the North and East (from Forest Grove) on
Saturday
night. And this morning...well I won't be going anywhere other than to
the
garage to sit and view the snow cover from the stationary position of my
    trainer.

Congrats to these three for another RUSA-T certificate to add to their
collection for the year. I'm certain this one wasn't a piece of cake
given
    the weather.
    Susan.

    Hi Susan:

It's was an epic ride - at 3am it was pouring down rain; headed up the
climb
and it switched to sleet and heavy snow.

Arriving at Vernonia we were saved by an amazing coffee shop that opened
at
6am on a Sunday on a holiday weekend (smile). Hot beverages, pie, a gas
powered Colman stove heated the place and dried our gear. Fully
restored
after an hour we had a lovely rest of the day on the bicycle. The last
hour
the sun popped out the birds sang and the lodge beckoned warmly at the
finish line. We crossed the front desk at 3p making for a 12 hour
jaunt.

No incidents; no mishaps -- exciting randonnuering weather. What a
great
    weekend of riding.

    Thanks so much

    Peter II

p.s. Brevet cards and registration forms mailed to you this morning
    (smile).
