---RBR contributor David Rowe was one of 50 riders to complete the notorious
Cascade 1200 in Washington state on June 24-27. The 762-mile brevet
circumnavigated the Cascade Mountain Range between Oregon and British
Columbia, climbing more than 40,000 feet in temperatures that reached 109F
degrees (43C). "The ride tested me to the very core," reports Rowe. "I slept
less than five hours over the three-and-a-half days, developed tendinitis,
could barely sit on the saddle, and was beginning to hallucinate due to lack
of sleep, lack of calories, and the altitude." Hey, sounds like fun to us!
Driving Rowe to finish was his commitment to the eBook he's writing, "Ready
to Ride: Preparing Your Mind, Body and Bike for the Ride of Your Life." To
be published later this year by RBR, it will chronicle his never-say-die
approach to long-distance cycling. Rowe's story of the Cascade 1200 and
other cycling topics can be found at http://www.readytoride.biz
